Lanikai Beach Ceremony today for John E. Hall, 67

The ashes of a former director and chief of health services with the City and County of Honolulu wilt be scattered this evening at Lanikai Beach.

John E. Hall, 67, died April 4 in Kailua of leukemia.

Hall became chief of health services for the city in 1986. In 1989 he was named director of health and city physician. In 1991 he became chief of health services for the city, a position he held until his retirement in 1997.

Hall was born in Hartford, Connecticut, and was a 1965 graduate of the University of Colorado School of Medicine. He moved to Hawaii in 1984.

Hall was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia a year before his death.

He is survived by his longtime companion, Paul Beck; brothers, James, Robert, William and Richard Hall; sister, Mary Lou Dabbs; sons, Christopher and Gregory Hall; daughter, Lisa Kore; stepsons, Brian and Kerry Mangan; stepdaughter, Jill Mangan.

He was born in Hartford, and raised in Pleasant Valley.  He graduated from The Gilbert School in 1949, and was a 1985 graduate of the University of Colorado School of Medicine.  He moved to Hawaii in 1984.

He became chief of health services for the city in 1986.  In 1989 he was named director of health and city physician.  Then in 1991 he became chief of health services for the city, a position he held until his retirement in 1997.

He was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia a year before his death.

His ashes were scattered at the Kaiolena Drive access to Lanikai Beach.  Hawaiian Memorial Park Mortuary is handling funeral arrangements.

WINSTED - John E. Hall, 67, died April 4 in Kailua, Hawaii.

His ashes will be scattered in Lanikai Beach.
